Committed to Accessibility

Everyone who visits this site should be able to use it, including people who navigate with a keyboard, a screen reader or a high-contrast display.

It is our policy to ensure that everyone, including persons with disabilities, has full and equal access to our digital offerings. We work to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA (Opens in new window).

What That Means on This Site

  • The main menu is a disclosure navigation. Every item is reachable with the Tab key, the menu opens with Enter or Space, and Escape closes it and returns focus to the button that opened it.
  • Two skip links come first in the tab order, so you can jump straight to the content or the footer instead of tabbing through the menu on every page.
  • Text and background colors are chosen for contrast rather than appearance: body copy is measured at 5.74:1, and the purple and teal accents have a separate, lighter form for use on black panels so nothing disappears there.
  • Interactive controls keep a visible border and a visible focus outline, including under Windows High Contrast, where a control with no border reads as plain text.
  • Images carry alternative text written for the photograph that belongs in the space, and decorative images are marked so they are skipped.
  • The blog has a summary version that lists every article by title on one page, one link each. It is quicker to reach a specific article with a screen reader or a keyboard, and it loads faster on a slow connection.
